Instead of the usual Christmas we celebrate every year, including gift exchanges and stuff, we decided to go as a family to California. On Christmas Day eight of us flew out to spend a week with Paula. It was a great trip - great break from the Wisconsin weather, though it wasn't 'hot' or anything, and it was the first time our family got everyone together since Paula's wedding. Here are some of the pictures and a little about our trip.

(12/25/96) We got to California and drove to the cliffs on the ocean. Rick almost fell in, unfortunately no one got that on camera. But we couldn't spend long there, we had to get to Paula's to eat - turkey dinner, her first turkey (a 28 pounder). And the whole meal turned out great.

(12/26/96) This could be some other day, too, but anyways, this is our brand new (rented) 15-passanger van. For the first time on a family trip we had enough room for everyone - and everyone got a window seat.

(12/27/96) The USS Constellation at the Navy base in San Diego. Tom (Paula's husband) is on the Kitty Hawk until April or so. That's why he isn't in any of these pictures.

Tijuana, Mexico

We spent an afternoon in Tijuana, wandering around... trying to get blankets, watches, shirts, and tequila (anyone can buy that there) for the lowest prices.

Laguna Beach

(12/28/96) Another family picture. This one on a beach on the way to LA from San Diego. Definitely nice enough for shorts.

Jurassic Park - The Ride
You have to look close to see the dinosaur in the middle of the picture. That was one cool ride - worth a wait - though we didn't have a long one.
And the book Jurassic Park (by Michael Crichton) is just as good if not better then the movie. (then again, most books end up better)

No, this isn't some normal downtown street (who would have guessed - it is with the other Universal Studios pictures). Of course, it is a set - and can be just about any city.

Watch for this in the movies. Memorial Day weekend - the sequel to Jurassic Park - The Lost World. The book is great, and I'm sure the movie will be pretty good too.
Us in Hollywood. Or just a picture in Universal Studios...
